. . .here are my thoughts.

What is certainly not the “breakfast of champions”?

What’s on your coffee table?  Car keys.  A YETI half-filled with yesterday’s lukewarm coffee.  Old magazines highlighting the passing of Betty White or the Queen.  Probably a large, sturdy, brute of a book.  Everyone has a coffee table book—the contents often undiscovered beneath its beautifully designed cover.  I recently read Men in Blazers Present Gods of Soccer: The Pantheon of the 100 Greatest Soccer Players (According to Us).  Before even exiting the library, I knew it was designed to be a coffee table book.  Discovering it was released in mid-October—just in time for holiday shopping—solidified my presumption.  Its inviting cover features Lionel Messi, Maradona, Pele, Marta, and Mia Hamm—two legendary Argentinians and two superstar Brazilians surrounding a U.S. legend.  Daring to crack the spine, a player’s photo is found on one side of the fold, with a 2-minute read on the opposite page.  Gods of Soccer would have been the perfect way for Maradona’s houseguest to occupy their time while he excused himself to the bathroom for his “breakfast of champions.”  Or to allow Marta—since she’s not into nose candy—time to reapply her bright red lipstick.
