. . .here are my thoughts.

Who is someone you’re definitely smarter than?

You know the real tragedy of The Tragedy of Macbeth?  Shakespeare naming a secondary character Macduff.  Writers today refuse to have multiple characters with names beginning with the same letter, let alone be this similar.  Granted, it’s not nearly as bad as J.R.R. Tolkien presenting us with Sauron and Saruman in The Lord of the Rings.  Anyway, watching Denzel Washington play the famous lead character was one of my first experiences with any of Shakespeare’s works.  It’s hard to believe a college graduate—with a doctorate, at that!—can honestly say such a thing.  I consider myself lucky, though.  The speech patterns used by Shakespeare are too difficult to comprehend for the 21st-century ear.  I also believe a striking correlation exists between Shakespeare and religion: both are taught as objective truths.  A deity is presented as existing without any evidence exceeding that of the all-time best-selling book.  Similarly, Bill’s writings are forced upon [nearly] every high school and college student while anointing him the greatest to ever wield the pen.  People need to decide for themselves!  But don’t take advice from me—I’m no genius.  I’m definitely smarter than Shakespeare, though.  He’s dead.
