. . .here are my thoughts.

What is the biggest prize you’ve ever won?

On August 7, 2009 I married the love of my—.  Sorry, what?  A financial prize?  Oh.  Sorry Phoebe!  In that case, I’m at a loss to think of any really big scores.  If I’d ever came into a metric shit-ton of cash I’d surely remember it, right?  Two less than life-changing scores do come to mind—more accomplishments than anything.  I once turned a $300 buy-in at a No-Limit Hold’em game into $3,600 after a 13-hour session.  Can’t complain about a 12x increase!  I also qualified for an all-expenses paid trip to Aruba to play in a poker tournament back in 2003—a $9,500 prize package.  The organizers threw in 10 free tournaments to all online qualifiers.  These tournaments began online, played down to the final table of 10 players, then finished with live play in Aruba.  I won one of those events for a $600 payday, but—more importantly—was awarded a honkin’ gold bracelet.  I’ve never had it professionally appraised, but my father said if melted down, the gold would be worth far more than the measly $600 cash I pocketed.  Yet, worth far less than my wife’s engagement ring.

  1. I won $4000 at Mountaineer but my best wins were when you and your brother were born. That was a big win for me and your Dad.

  2. The best thing I ever won was by far on January 29, 1966 when I married my husband. I have won a few smaller things though. A bicycle at the Union Christmas Party for US Steel when I was a little girl, A VCR from work, and $500.00 from our Church’s Raffle. I have also won a 50/50 raffle at a function for about $350.00.
