Q&complAints #671 : Worst Mantra

What is the worst mantra ever?

Post your answer in the LEAVE A COMMENT section below. I’m not the boss of you, though. Don’t write anything for all I care! If my four sentence mantras haven’t convinced you thus far, I expect little difference this time.

. . .here are my thoughts.

What is the worst mantra ever?

Get 1% better every day.

What a stupid fuckin’ mantra! Yet athletes are heard spouting this garbage all the time, and business folk are fed this BS by C-Suite suits. Your team’s captain says it in a post-loss interview—change allegiances. You’re a shareholder of a company whose CEO demands it—sell sell sell. Frankly, anyone uttering it is a mathematical moron. Investments in a 401(k) rely on compounding to amass enormous wealth over time, while averaging only 7-10% per year. Imagine what 1% per day would get you. Funds compounding daily at 1% would lead to a nation of 20-year-old retirees who never experienced the joys and depravity of an after-work happy hour. Do the math. If you were to start with 1 penny and compound it by 1% everyday, you’d be a millionaire in about 5 years. Similarly, imagine a terrible bowler who averages 50 pins per game. Increase their score by 1% every day and they’re rolling 300s within 6 months. Plus, if every athlete got 1% better every day, the best player’s superiority would simply increase over everyone else’s. Strive for improvements every day, but do so within mathematical realities.
