What have you not been able to figure out?
Post your answer in the LEAVE A COMMENT section below. I’m not the boss of you, though. Don’t write anything for all I care! You’ll figure out how to do it.
. . .here are my thoughts.
What have you not been able to figure out?
The following 12 states are considered the Midwest:
- North Dakota
- South Dakota
- Nebraska
- Kansas
- Minnesota
- Iowa
- Missouri
- Wisconsin
- Illinois
- Michigan
- Indiana
- Ohio
These states fall primarily within the Eastern or Central time zones, with western portions of ND, SD, NE, and KS all the way over in the Mountain time zone. How is it that Midwest states can also be designated as Eastern or Central states? Heck, if those states are in the Midwest, it seems to me to imply that farther to the east of the Midwest should be a region called the Nearwest. We’d have to assume Pennsylvania—being Ohio’s eastern neighbor—should be graced with this new Nearwest moniker. That leaves only New Jersey as a 70-mile-wide strip of land separating the Nearwest from the Atlantic Ocean. The Southeast region of the United States—Arkansas marking its northwestern extreme—is well named, however. These states are actually in both the south and east. Yet, half of this Southeastern territory overlaps with meridians of the Midwest. Again, how can part of an Eastern territory be west of portions of the Midwest? This remains a mystery I can’t figure out!
