What situation makes you uncomfortable?
Post your answer in the LEAVE A COMMENT section below. I’m not the boss of you, though. Don’t write anything for all I care! I mean, if you’re not comfortable, don’t worry about it.
. . .here are my thoughts.
What situation makes you uncomfortable?
I used to use 3 spaced out periods to make an ellipsis. The problem with this approach is that when they fall near the end of a line, some or all of the periods get pushed to the beginning of the next line … not a professional look. Embarrassingly, I only recently learned the shortcut for creating a proper ellipsis. Using Word, you press CTRL + ALT + PERIOD. However, you must be careful not to press the PERIOD button that doubles as DEL on keyboards with a numeric keypad. Pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL on a Windows machine brings you to the Task Manager screen:
Lock
Switch user
Sign out
Task Manager
Cancel
An ellipsis basically functions as an extended pause: “Wait for it; here it comes!” When you accidentally summons the Task Manager screen, it acts like it’s annoyed you’re bothering it. Masquerading as helpful with those first four options, it knows you’ll ultimately choose Windows version of “Wait for it; here it comes!”—that bolded Cancel button. This situation makes me uncomfortable. I don’t really want to sign out. But I really don’t want to participate in today’s rampant cancel culture.
