I heard a riddle when I was a young lad that goes something like this:
He tipped his cap and drew his cane, and in this sentence, I told you his name.
Andrew’s riddle has stuck with me. My wife recently asked me what I wanted from Chipotle. My decision points are chicken, steak, or barbacoa in either a burrito, a bowl, or as tacos. I told her to surprise me. But channeling the riddle, I quickly told her a fictional story involving family gossip as she readied herself to leave.
While Aunt Dee was at work, she got visited by Aunt Barbara, Colla’s #1 patron. Dee had been talking about retirement, so Barb asked, “Still here, huh? You’re not chickening out, are you?” Then Dee’s like, “Please do not talk about retirement right now. But I’m not bullshitting you. Within the next—” To which Barb interrupted, “Keep in mind, if you run out of money, I will not stake you!”
As Phoebe walked out the door, I yelled to her, “Get some dessert, too. I’d love if you bought Rita’s.” Through great skill and concentration, Phoebe came home with exactly what I wanted.
