What’s the ultimate “And then it got worse” story?

. . .here are my thoughts.

What’s the ultimate “And then it got worse” story?

“Overview Effect.”

I said those words aloud when astronauts in the film, I.S.S., gathered together to stare out at the Earth.  Not 30 seconds later, an American astronaut explains the concept.  Apparently an increased sense of connection to other people and to the Earth as a whole isn’t felt by everyone aboard the spacecraft—two astronauts and two cosmonauts are soon murdered.  Another irony: shouldn’t the International Space Station be a little more international than just the USA and Russia?  Sure, that technically qualifies as International, but only pedantically.  It was completely coincidental (not ironic, Alanis!) that I watched this film while two American astronauts, Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams, are stranded on the I.S.S.  They were launched up there in June 2024 for what should have been an 8-day stay.  They’re now scheduled to remain in space until at least late March 2025.  It’s a real-world take on a 3-hour tour.  Butch and Suni certainly won’t have such bad luck as to be 15-year castaways like the Gilligan’s Island folks.  They should, however, garner one lesson from the I.S.S. movie: things could get a whole hell of a lot worse.
