Who is one person you unfortunately come across frequently?
On my drive to work, I unfortunately come across the same person panhandling. By “unfortunately,” I mean it’d be better if she were able to acquire a job that paid well enough to disincentivized her from holding a cardboard sign on the side of the road. As it is, though, panhandling likely earns her a higher hourly rate. According to her sign, she seeks money for her family’s food and shelter. Some people may refuse to give to panhandlers out of fear that funds will be used for drug purchases. I’d be more worried for their long-term health if they spent the money on items from McDonald’s dollar menu. If you want to act as a financial consultant or dietician, buy them a gift card. Want to increase the likelihood of a healthy meal? Choose a Subway voucher in lieu of Burger King. This also doubles as a fantastic way to rid your center console of that random stack of unused gift cards. There’s always the chance they’ll convert your generous gift into cash at one of those fancy exchange kiosks. But there’s really only so many precautions you can take.
