What movie character defines the word “cool”?

We’ve all heard a movie voiceover, recognized it, but couldn’t place the voice to a name for the life of us. It’s not your fault, though. We’ve been programmed to always expect Morgan Freeman! In the film Free Guy, the credits will show VO’s by big names like Dwayne Johnson, Hugh Jackman, Tina Fey, and John Krasinski. Unexpectedly hearing a famous voice is cool, but I think it’s super-duper cool (unlike that turn of phrase) when any big name actor plays a very small character that easily could have gone to an aspiring barista. Especially when that marketable name and Hollywood smile are absent from all advertising. It’s such a surprise seeing them in a minor role that you literally say aloud—even when watching solo—“Is that Channing Tatum?” The remainder of the film is spent waiting for the reemergence of the big-name actor, convinced that single scene couldn’t possibly be the extent of their screen time. This was the case with Free Guy, in which the coolness of Magic Mike XXLed above the cameos of Chris Evans, and Alex Trebek. Amazing—I made it nearly 200 words without mentioning Ryan Reynolds!
