Q&complAints #523 : Exceptionally Smart

How do you know if someone is exceptionally smart?

Post your answer in the LEAVE A COMMENT section below. I’m not the boss of you, though. Don’t write anything for all I care! But if you do, that cute barista who always spells your name wrong on the cup will know you’re really smart.

. . .here are my thoughts.

How do you know if someone is exceptionally smart?

If you have to ask, you already know the answer.  You don’t witness a kid licking a frozen metal flagpole and say to your spouse, “We’ve got ourselves the next Einstein.”  There are multiple kinds of smart, though.  You might figure Dr. Shaun Murphy on The Good Doctor isn’t very smart because of his objectively atrocious bedside manner.  But you’d be wrong (about the intelligence part, not the bedside manner).  You may also think someone who dominates a conversation—like an AI spewing facts from Wikipedia—is exceptionally smart.  A great memory doesn’t necessarily make someone a genius, though. Nor is it true when someone clambers drunkenly around the office Christmas party obnoxiously claiming they’re the smartest person at the company.  After sobering up in the new year, hopefully the CEO will realize a true genius doesn’t need to tell people about their intelligence; it should become apparent with time.  Exceptionally smart people listen more than they talk.  They question everything, always searching for deeper answers.  But the easiest way to determine if someone is exceptionally smart is to see if their homepage is www.UrProbablyRight.com.  If so … not a genius!
