Meds & Counsel without Patience for Patients
Ever heard of Dick’s Last Resort? Never been to the restaurant myself, but I love the concept. It’s like the court jester in medieval times being able to tell the King the harsh truth since everything he said was in—you guessed it—jest. Why has no pharmacy taken up this business practice? If patients expect harsh but fair truth from the pharmacy team, they’ll accept it readily.
Welcome to URxProbablyRxight. The pharmacy of the future where we provide “Meds & Counsel without Patience for Patients.”

Epsom Salts

[Patient]: “Where do you keep the Epsom salts there, young lady?”
[Tech]: “Should be on the bottom shelf of ‘First Aid’.”
[Pt]: “Haven’t had a bowel movement in 3 days.”
[Tech]: “Sorry to hear that.  It’s a shitty feeling, being constipated.  All of our laxatives and such will be in the aptly named ‘Laxative’ section.”
[Pt]: “Just need the salts.  Only thing’s ever been able to keep me regular.”
[Tech]: “Umm, Epsom salts are for, like, soaking your feet.”
[Pt]: “Child, I’ve been drinking those salts since before your parents were born.  Work wonders for the bowels.”
[Tech]: “Sure you’re not just trying to get high?  I’m gonna ask my pharmacist if—”
[Rph]: “It’s just magnesium, Kay.  So, yeah, Epsom salts will cause diarrhea.”
[Tech]: “If you drank it.  But you’re not supposed to, right?”
[Rph]: “You can definitely drink the stuff.  She’s possibly the only person this century to use Epsom salts as a laxative, but, yeah, you can definitely drink it.”
[Tech]: “Think we should put some on the bottom shelf of the ‘Laxative’ section?”
[Rph]: “Yeah, I don’t think so.”
[Tech]: “Alright.  Well, sorry, ma’am, I really thought it was only used for soaking.”
[Pt]: “Don’t you worry your little heart.  No day is complete that doesn’t teach us a lesson.”
[Tech]: “I just feel like crap that I didn’t know that.  Glad I’m backed-up by Marianne here.  I’ll defecately avoid making that mistake again.”
[Pt]: “That’s all very nice, young lady.  But right now, I can’t say I care one way or the other.  Rest assured, though, in a few hours, I’ll give a shit.”
