. . .here are my thoughts.

What is your favorite uncommon word beginning with “E”?

Eggcorn: a word or phrase resulting from a misinterpretation of another; an element of the original being substituted for one that sounds very similar

Don’t eat cold slaw that’s been left out of the fridge too long; it surely won’t pass mustard of being safe to consume.  You may find yourself in the feeble position as members of the kitchen staff attempt to escape goat one another regarding the putridity of the cabbage and carrot concoction.  Meanwhile the sous chef claims he suffers from old-timer’s disease, thus has no recollection of the slaw, let alone why he’s been given free reign in a kitchen.  In such a doggy-dog culinary world, for all intensive purposes, the overly competition culture is to blame.

There we have eight examples of acorns (there’s a ninth!) in a fun little ditty of my own creation.  My guess is that you’ve had an eggcorn or two you said hundreds of times before learning it was incorrect.  I’ll also venture you have a few you continue to say because you haven’t yet learned of your errors.  The English language is tough, so don’t worry—you’re in good company.
