. . .here are my thoughts.

What is your most gratifying moment?

Whenever asked to summarize the plot of a movie, I’m tempted to elaborate on the ending:

“. . . blah . . . blah . . . blah . . . and then a giant asteroid hit the Earth and everybody died.”

I’ve always wanted a movie—or better yet, a lengthy TV series—to end in such a cataclysmic, world-ending event. As I watched Don’t Look Up, I began hoping the giant space rock would hit Earth, wipe out everyone, and finally give me the ending of ultimate finality I’ve desired for so long. Some may argue mass destruction is more of a cop-out than the snow globe ending of St. Elsewhere, or the abrupt abortion just before the final climactic battle in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I’m not so convinced, though. Sure, some movies and books are better served with a few situations left unresolved. After all, the story-telling mantra “In late, out early” persists for good reason. I don’t want to ruin the ending of Don’t Look Up for anyone who hasn’t yet seen it . . . but let’s just say it supplied me a most gratifying moment!
