. . .here are my thoughts.
What has recently disappointed you?
My recent trip to Vegas coincided with Doyle Brunson’s Celebration of Life in the 900-seat Jubilee Theater. Decks of cards (shown above) containing only 10s and 2s were handed out; Doyle’s winning hand in each of his WSOP Main Events was T2-offsuit. The MC stated that we had a consensus of the poker world gathered, thus a vote was taken to declare October 2nd “Doyle Brunson Day.” Exclusively ayes were voiced. However, saying there was a consensus of the poker world in attendance is like saying I had any success in the tournaments I played—a complete lie. There had to be less than 700 people there. This poor turnout was despite announcements made the previous days that seating was limited, thus early arrival was encouraged. Poker players never show up early! Apparently, they won’t even walk a few hundred meters to pay respects to the Godfather of Poker. Further disappointment struck upon reading the Doyle-ism on the card above. “It’s” shouldn’t have an apostrophe. Frankly, the sentence should read “their” and “are,” not “it’s” and “is.” What’s more disappointing: the poor turnout for a poker legend, or the flagrant abuse of the English language?
