Ned and Viv have no recollection of the genesis of this unique situation. They woke up in the cage, having no memory of how they got there. Or why bears are next door! With candy canes in their cage and smiles on their faces, though, the bears can’t be all that bad. Magic hat to the rescue, producing snacks for trade. Viv surmises this is another of Santa’s tests to determine if she and Ned can follow the rules when faced with extreme conditions. Ned rationalizes that both parties already have food they could eat. Thus, neither side would be feeding the other, per se. Santa would have to see this as a simple redistribution of calories, as opposed to a forbidden initial distribution of sustenance.
