While Ned helps Viv hang her creation, he ruminates as to what each link in the chain represents.
After yesterday’s truce, he figures the green loops represent him—after all, Viv’s well aware green is his favorite color. Red must represent Viv, while collectively paying homage to the traditional Christmas colors. Each pure white link conveys an understanding of the clean slate between the two of them, along with a sense of peacefulness that epitomizes the holiday season. Ned hides his disappointment when Viv later informs him they will remove one link from the Christmas Countdown Chain each night in preparation for Santa’s arrival. Things can be two things.
