Aren’t they all, really?!  They say the average college graduate makes an extra $1.2 million in their lifetime compared to a non-college graduate.  But with the debt the average student is saddled with upon graduation, it may turn out to be a wash.  With early investment in a 401(k), and the beauty of compounding interest—in lieu of shoveling money toward student loan debt—the debt-free high school grad can easily be just as well-off in retirement.  I earned a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry.  Know what I could do with that?  Neither did I.  But I had to choose something.  After a little bit of research—emphasis on little bit—I applied to The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy.  If I didn’t get accepted, I would have figured something else out.  Word going around at the time said high schools were in desperate need of science teachers.  At the time, they were even foregoing the usual requirements for teaching certifications.  Had things worked out differently, I might have been educating the youth of America.  Instead, I’m supplying kids with the Adderall required to endure their physics classes.
