What is the best reason to go to college?

. . .here are my thoughts.
What is the best reason to go to college?
I listen to a handful of science-based podcasts which often reference the papers or research they mention. I might hear something like:
“According to a paper from BlahBlah Blahbenstein at The Ohio State University Department of Molecular Genetics …”
Normally I wouldn’t care less about the researcher’s name or University. Of course, if they work at an Ivy League school, Cambridge or Oxford, or the likes of MIT, I might take notice and think to myself, “This is someone I can trust.” The same goes for when I hear my alma mater, Ohio State, mentioned. I’ll even tap the “Rewind 15-seconds” button to relisten to the researcher’s name and full position at OSU. Why do I do this? No idea. It’s not like hearing their name or job title will differentiate them whatsoever from BlahBlah Blahbenstein (a far superior placeholder than Jane/John Doe—and gender neutral, to boot!). Subconsciously, I give just that little extra confidence to an OSU researcher’s work. Perhaps that additional credence is the best reason to attend an elite or highly enrolled college. I doubt graduates of DeVry University, or ITT Technical Institute garner the same respect.
