. . .here are my thoughts.

What could you do all day long?

I’m not Sting, so . . . not that. But I can play poker all day long—and as a younger man, I played a few 24-hour sessions. I often joke that playing poker is the best diet there is. I never feel hungry while playing, or for hours afterward. While I’m at work or writing, I experience this same lack of hunger. The main difference is I can’t work for more than about 13 straight hours, or sit and write for more than a few hours at a stretch. But poker . . . no problem. The Hollywood Casino Columbus Poker Room recently reopened after being shut down for COVID for almost exactly a year. I’ve never done even close to a 24-hour session here in Columbus. We’ll chalk the reasons why up evenly to age and spouse. Even though I think I could still do 24 straight hours, I wouldn’t recommend it. Try giving that advice to Phil Laak, the Guinness World Record holder for longest continuous poker session at 115 hours! That’s 4 days, 19 hours. He profited $6,766 during the marathon session—or $58.83 per hour. Not worth it!
