. . .here are my thoughts.

If you had a large bumper sticker on your car, what would it say?

A few months back, I saw an actual bumper sticker reading:

My Child is an Angel

That’s a completely reasonable comment on its own. The trouble was the “A” of Angel. It had a halo around it! This immediately altered my initial interpretation of a precious (living) child unabashedly loved by Mom and Dad. I couldn’t help but wonder if their little angel was now of the heavenly variety. How quickly my thoughts spun those 180° from the annoyance of another parent’s false impression that their kid is God’s gift to the world, to a sense of compassion for a parent having had to bury their baby. Only seconds later, I completed the circle by realizing no parent in their right mind would advertise their greatest horror on the rear of their car. Why put that intentionally misleading halo there in the first place? I bet they didn’t even have a kid! I should be more specific: I’d venture they never had a kid. My hypothetical bumper sticker would read:

My Child is an Angel . . . and Alive . . . and a Dog!
