Rx #0000071 : Black Scrubs, White Coat

Meds & Counsel without Patience for Patients
Ever heard of Dick’s Last Resort? Never been to the restaurant myself, but I love the concept. It’s like the court jester in medieval times being able to tell the King the harsh truth since everything he said was in—you guessed it—jest. Why has no pharmacy taken up this business practice? If patients expect harsh but fair truth from the pharmacy team, they’ll accept it readily.
Welcome to URxProbablyRxight. The pharmacy of the future where we provide “Meds & Counsel without Patience for Patients.”

Black Scrubs, White Coat

[Patient]: “It as hot back there as it is out here in the store?”
[Rph]: “It’s always a little warm back here.  Especially in this lab coat.”
[Pt]: “At least it’s white.  Cooler than if it were black.”
[Rph]: “Well, I mean … we’re inside, so I—I don’t think that really matters much.”
[Pt]: “No, ‘cause, like, black keeps in the heat.”
[Rph]: “Yeah, it would if we were in direct sunlight.  But we’re inside.”
[Pt]: “I don’t think that’s how it works.”
[Rph]: “Well, I’m wearing black scrubs underneath anyway, so your point would be moot.”
[Pt]: “Is that, umm … some kind of political statement?”
[Rph]: “Is what a political statement?”
[Pt]: “White coat over top of black scrubs.”
[Rph]: “I literally have no idea what you’re talking about.”
[Pt]: “Just another example of the white man keeping the black man down.  Black scrubs doing all the work.  You know—keepin’ your naughty bits covered, and what not.  Then in swoops some white coat, taking all the credit.”
[Rph]: “What credit?!”
[Pt]: “That girl back there knows what I’m talking about.  What’s her name?”
[Rph]: “That’s Jaycee.  I’ll let you two talk this through.”
[Pt]: “Jaycee!  Jaycee, over here.  I see you ain’t wearing a white coat.  You protesting against centuries of injustice—centuries of the white man keeping us down?”
[Tech]: “Ah, no.  I’m a tech.  Roger’s a pharmacist so he wears a white coat.  It’s just a uniform, not some covert racial thing.”
[Pt]: “So it’s a sexism thing?!”

. . . [As an employee at URxProbablyRxight, what’s the most ridiculous rant you’ve heard from a patient?]
