. . .here are my thoughts.

What’s the most fun form of exercise?

Ever see a group of three sitting together at a bar and try to discern what their whole vibe is?  Hell with the physical kind—this mental exercise is peak entertainment!  They might be co-workers having drinks after work.  Maybe a loving couple looking to expand to a throuple.  The trio in the film Past Lives is closer to the latter.  The woman reconnects with her childhood sweetheart, while her husband looks like a coworker who accepted a pity invitation.  During her youth in Korea, she’d cry frequently.  Her beau was always there comforting her.  She stopped shedding tears altogether upon moving to NYC and realizing nobody cared when she wept.  Nobody would comfort her.  Her ambitions changed, too: childhood yearning for the Nobel Prize in Literature; early career desire for a Pulitzer Prize; mid-career dream of a Tony Award.  Recognition was no longer an aspiration—even the utterance of Tony was more difficult to pull from her mouth than a tear would have been from the New Yorker’s eye.  She ultimately embraces her husband at film’s end, shedding tears laced with untold emotions.  Turns out, the throuple thing was never an option.
