What technology would you be better off without?
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever references MIT:
“We have located the scientist. She is at the American equivalent of a Wakandan Village school.”
This isn’t a dig at MIT. It’s not even dissing the U.S education system as a whole. Instead, the quip emphasizes the superior intellect of the Wakandan people. No doubt they have the best STEM schools on the planet. Vibranium advanced their technology to levels that make the atomic bomb in Oppenheimer seem like a baking soda volcano at a 5th grade science fair. It’s telling that the smartest Wakandan relies heavily on artificial intelligence. No matter how smart she is, the only way she’ll ever have a leg up on AI is when reclining in her office chair with a foot resting on the computer tower. As intellectually superior and technologically advanced as they are, Wakandans and the sub-aquatic Talokans sure have a lot of work to do when it comes to social skills. The volatile relationship between the two nations mirrors that of middle school cheerleaders: friends, enemies, friends, enemies, friends. If technological supremacy leads to riffs with the rest of the world, we’re better off without Vibranium.
