What religious practice baffles you?

What religious practice baffles you?

Early in the film Holy Spider, a female journalist is reminded to cover her hair with a headscarf, lest she get in trouble with the morality police.  She is reporting on the Spider Killer—a man who ultimately murders 16 prostitutes in a “jihad against vice.”  Once arrested, the Spider Killer is championed by both the public, and local authorities.  His support is so great, in fact, he is promised by high-ranking officials that he will be secretly escorted to freedom just prior to his scheduled execution.  Fortunately, despite overwhelming support for his crimes, his freedom never comes.  His hanging does not involve an elevated drop; his neck does not break and allow him a quick death.  Fittingly, his execution consisted of a gentle kicking away of the stepstool he stood upon so his en pointe toes quiver mere inches above the concrete floor.  He suffocates just like his 16 female victims—an eye for an eye.  Pressures from his culture and religion nearly granted freedom to a serial killer of women.  That same culture and religion strictly enforce that women must wear hijabs.  Great for decreasing skin cancer rates, but an otherwise baffling practice!
