. . .here are my thoughts.

What song reminds you most of a past relationship?

The low-key best moment in Blonde—the movie about Marilyn Monroe’s life—was a police officer telling Norma Jeane’s Mom she should turn her car around and drive her 7-year-old daughter back home because she was obviously drunk.  How did kids stay alive in 1933?  The beautiful Ana de Armas portrays the perpetually topless Marilyn Monroe in this NC-17 film.  Thus, when I say “best moment in Blonde,” I’m excluding two things.  The most depressing scene was at a mental hospital where patients wandered around a padded room, restrained by straightjackets.  Did anyone get proper mental health care in 1943?  Blonde included most of the classic Marilyn moments everyone knows—most notably, her iconic billowing dress on the subway grate.  We, however, didn’t hear her sing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President”—four words instantly reminding all who hear them of the extra-marital relationship.  Instead, we witnessed an extreme close-up of Marilyn fellating JFK while the leader of the free world continued a political discussion via telephone.  It’s heartening to see such professionalism: Marilyn a consummate entertainer, even for an audience of one; JFK with his ceaseless work ethic—perhaps his only ethics.
