What is the best costume you ever wore for Halloween?
Back in 2014, my wife and I attended a Halloween party shortly following the conclusion of the Columbus Crew’s Leg-1 playoff game at 4:00 PM. Being indifferent to what others think of me, I planned to attend sans costume. That was until the Crew were soundly defeated, 4-2, at their home stadium by the New England Revolution. There was virtually no way they’d overcome that embarrassing loss in next week’s game at Foxborough. That’s when I decided to wear a very simple, niche, time-sensitive, and quite expensive costume. Wearing a Crew jersey, hat, and scarf, I carried a manila envelope overflowing with money. Picture one of those envelopes you so often see in mafia films when mom-and-pop businesses pay mobsters their monthly “protection money.” On the envelope, I wrote:
CONFIDENTIAL: Crew vs. NE Revs Leg-2 Officials ONLY!!

I went all out, too, completing the otherwise paper-stuffed envelope with a few real-world $100 bills peaking out. Needless to say, nobody there appreciated my clever costume . . . let alone soccer. I’ll assume you, dear reader, share that group’s sentiment.
