. . .here are my thoughts.

What is the funniest thing you can write in five words or less?

My mother-in-law bought me the coffee-table book, Thing Explainer: Complicated Stuff in Simple Words, many Christmases ago.  I’ve only recently finished reading it, though.  I say “reading” with as much assuredness as I call it a “coffee-table book.”  The book seems better suited as a decoration—to be flipped through and enjoyed in 5-minute intervals by a bored houseguest—than it does to be read from start to finish like traditional books.  Anyway, the concept of the book is that it “explains” complex “things” with only drawings and the 1,000 most common English words.  (That’s 20 times the words used in Green Eggs and Ham!)  As a reminder, these Q&complAints posts are each 200 words.  This self-imposed limit is to ensure I don’t drone on, and on, and on, and—.  If I’m allotted 5 words to pen the funniest thing I can, you can bet I’ll use them all.  I’ll still invest 39 times that as preamble, though.  My 5 words aren’t extrinsically funny.  Rather, they create humor from those frequent, untested, spur-of-the-moment jokes met with only the chirping of crickets:

They can’t all be winners.
