What is the answer to all of life’s secrets?

What is the answer to all of life’s secrets?
Any fan of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy knows the correct answer to this question is “42.” But the real question remains: What’s the question this answer answers? In reality, though, there’s no single answer to all of life’s secrets. Some people might toss out their favorite 1-word refrain: Love, Faith, Family, Alcohol, etc. But none of these are all-encompassing. Humor, though, can help put a lot of life into perspective. The number 42 reminds me of a great joke. Here’s my bastardized version.
A world-renowned elephant can allegedly tell the age of any human being. An Irishman— believing this claim to be hogwash—challenges the elephant’s caretaker for proof. “Stand here. Don’t move,” replies the caretaker. The elephant approaches the man, slowly circling him until eventually backing up and touching its tail to the man’s red hair. Suddenly, a thunderous burst of hot air erupts, knocking the man to the ground. Before the Irishman can clear the horrid scent from his nostrils and get his wits about him, the elephant stomps twice on his chest. Regaining his breath, the man exclaims in his thick Irish accent, “I am farty-two!”
