. . .here are my thoughts.

What do people do too much of today?

I’ve never been one to make eye contact. I don’t like that you can’t focus on both eyes simultaneously. Do you look at the right eye or the left? Should you alternate between the two like you’re watching a tennis match? Maybe just stare between their eyes as though inspecting for a unibrow? It’s never made sense to me. I’ve always just stared at people’s mouths. Then along came COVID. If ever there were a time to convert to the status quo of culturally mandated eye contact, this is it. But I won’t be influenced by a tiny virus. I won’t be dissuaded from my chosen path of eye avoidance. I’ll continue to stare deeply through those multiple layers of finely woven material, as if I can penetrate to that kisser that hasn’t seen lipstick for years. (I feel bad for companies that focus primarily on lip products.) There have to be more like me out there who still refuse to meet a stranger’s eye(s). Many have undoubtedly let COVID win—their eyes now in perpetual, voluntary nystagmus. But I hold firm—people engage in way too much eye contact these days.

  1. Too much looking at electronics and not enough eye contact. My husband complains about that every time we watch TV. I play my games on my iPad and he says I’m not watching TV and conversing with him. I tell him I cando 2 or 3 things at once. I also tell him he talks way too much.

  3. People today focus on too much negativity. They also worry or focus too much on their feelings. If you look at someone in the eye they pull a gun. If you say what you feel you hurt their feelings or piss them off. Way too much sensitivity today.
