What is the most dangerous occupation?

What is the most dangerous occupation?
Plane crashes make the news because they’re so rare. We don’t hear about car crashes unless they involve the likes of Princess Diana or Tiger Woods. Why? Because they happen all the time. Most forms of public transit are quite safe these days. Likely the safest form of public transit—although generally not thought of as such—are elevators. They obviously conform to the definition—they transport the public. And they’re loaded with safety mechanisms. So one of the safest occupations must be the elevator attendant, right? That profession would have been a downright death wish prior to the safety features invented by the Otis Elevator Co. But today, if an elevator were to plummet to the ground, it’s likely because the entire building is going down with it. Elevator attendants were already rare prior to COVID, but the virus undoubtedly ended most of those remaining positions. Combining all these ideas, we may be able to statistically categorize the elevator attendant as the most dangerous occupation on the planet. Imagine a building collapse, killing one of the 10 elevator attendants remaining in the world. A 10% mortality rate sounds extremely dangerous to me.
Definitely law enforcement.
It seems everyone is in agreement on this one!
In today’s crazy world, definitely law enforcement. Every profession has a few bad apples but law enforcement is really being mistreated for their very few bad apples. Most just want to do their job and go home safely to their loved ones. I hate the bad rap this noble profession is getting.
You are kidding right! Although statistically you are correct. For me, in today’s crazy world of crazy people, I think the dangerous profession is law enforcement. There are a few bad apples but the majority of our law enforcers put their lives on the line everyday, get no appreciation for it, and are damned when they try to enforce the law.
I’m only serious about half the time. It’s up to you to decide when, though. (But in this case, of course not!)
