What musical instrument have you always wanted to play?

Post your answer in the LEAVE A COMMENT section below. I’m not the boss of you, though. Don’t write anything for all I care! But it’d be music to my ears if you did.

. . .here are my thoughts.

What musical instrument have you always wanted to play?

(I’m so tempted to start with a “skin flute” joke, but my wife would undoubtedly object. Insert your own.) Like many youths, I was forced to play the recorder in middle school. I had no desire to play the recorder then—a desire that extends to all instruments today. Don’t get me wrong, I’m fascinated that people are able to transmute the seemingly undecipherable language of sheet music, through their instrument, into beautiful sounds. My mother-in-law, Glennis, sits down at her piano, flips to a random page, and out comes a perfect song. Amazing! I recently viewed the unfortunately titled movie, Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of Harley Quinn. It was made known that a character called Black Canary had the ability to maim or kill with her voice at the exact time the plot necessitated just such a talent. I suppose they somewhat foreshadowed her skill when earlier in the film she shattered a wine glass by belting out a high note. The human voice is the vocalist’s “instrument.” My instrument also has the ability to temporarily maim (no documented kills, though), as I can’t carry a tune.

  1. I always wanted to play organ, piano and guitar. Just wasn’t disciplined to practice. My 4th grade music teacher (of course it was the recorder also) told my parents I had talent to play an instrument. My mom and dad said they would give me lessons but I had to practice before I went out to play every day. So what would be any 4th grader response? Yep I want to go outside and play. They bought me a little organ that you played by numbers. Loved it. Still wanted to go outside. I regret that decision to this day. We have a baby gran piano sitting in our house. Sharon bought me a learners book 25 years ago. Haven’t even bent the cover. Call me just lazy.
