Q&complAints #055 : Book Club Rule

If you started a book club, what would be the one and only rule?

Post your answer in the LEAVE A COMMENT section below. I’m not the boss of you, though. Don’t write anything for all I care! Anyway, it can just be a short comment; you don’t need to write a book.

. . .here are my thoughts.

If you started a book club, what would be the one and only rule?

Rule numero uno of management: employees should never hear something for the first time at their end-of-year evaluation. That’s a time for reevaluating steps taken to remedy previously mentioned issues, and extrapolating those fixes into the next 12 months and beyond. This lack of surprise carries over to book club meetings. You don’t want to present a fantastic point that garners limited discussion because the idea came as a total surprise to everyone when they’re already half a bottle of Malbec in. The leader of the discussion should be responsible for collecting desired discussion focuses—doubling as RSVPs—then collating and forwarding them to all members the day prior to the meeting. This will streamline discussions, while affording adequate time for measured discourse on each agenda topic. It’ll also prevent that lady who constantly reminds everyone she went to Harvard, from going off-script. Most importantly, the discussion focus/RSVP method helps weed out those freeloaders who haven’t actually read the book. This is a book club, not a wine and snacks social hour. The only rule of book club should be deathly obvious:

Read the Damn Book!

  1. Any political writings. Politics have split up families and friends. I find it so sad that siblings and relatives and friends are not talking because of politics. I cannot agree with one party let alone one politician. I cannot blindly follow one side. I think it is dangerous when we do.
One person told me she didn’t like that we have two parties. She wants one. I couldn’t answer then finally I responded , “You are in favor of a dictator.”
