You’d be excused for believing a “Holiday Words Only” mandate was in effect. In reality, though, Viv began the game by playing CHRIS, which Ned lengthened to CHRIST, immediately before Viv added a little more to arrive at CHRISTMAS. Off the “C,” Ned laid COA. To which Viv added a lumpy “L.” Ned may have been signaling to Viv, “We need to Cover Our Ass!” following the attempted candy cane extortion the other day. Before Viv added an “RU,” Ned had spelled out DOLPH. That precipitated his 15-minute monologue as to why Rocky IV is the best film in the franchise. As you can see, Viv and Ned play fast and loose with the rules of Scrabble—not heeding the “Words Requiring Capitalization” and “Abbreviations” exclusions. Ned finds himself in a really tough spot, as they don’t subscribe to the “Tile Exchange” rule, either.
