Meds & Counsel without Patience for Patients
Ever heard of Dick’s Last Resort? Never been to the restaurant myself, but I love the concept. It’s like the court jester in medieval times being able to tell the King the harsh truth since everything he said was in—you guessed it—jest. Why has no pharmacy taken up this business practice? If patients expect harsh but fair truth from the pharmacy team, they’ll accept it readily.

Holiday Pay
[Patient]: “Thanks, Harrison. See you next time.”
[Tech]: “Alright. Have a good holiday.”
[Pt]: “Holiday?”
[Tech]: “Yeah. Today’s Memorial Day.”
[Pt]: “Ohh shit, that’s today? Had no idea.”
[Tech]: “Well, just have a great random Monday, I guess.” “Hey, Kay.”
[Tech 2]: “Yup?”
[Tech]: “We get holiday pay today?”
[Tech 2]: “Holiday? What holiday?”
[Tech]: “Memorial Day. Come on, does nobody care about our veterans?! How can so many people disrespect those who died protecting our freedom?”
[Tech 2]: “Calm yourself, Harrison. I’m aware it’s Memorial Day. I was just making fun of that last patient.”
[Tech]: “Ohh, sorry.”
[Tech 2]: “Anyway, you’re the one being disrespectful.”
[Tech]: “Me? What are you talking about?”
[Tech 2]: “Taking advantage of the deaths of countless veterans just to get a few extra dollars in your paycheck. Shame on you!”
[Tech]: “No! That’s—that’s not what I meant. I mean I—I just wondered if, you know, if we—”
[Tech 2]: “Harrison! Relax, I’m messin’ with you. Hell, I wouldn’t be here today if I wasn’t makin’ time-and-a half.”
[Tech]: “Alright, okay. Good one, Kay. You had me goin’.”
[Tech 2]: “But, umm, you gotta be fulltime to get holiday pay.”
[Tech]: “You serious?”
[Rph]: “Stop screwing with the newbie, Kay.”
[Tech 2]: “But it’s so easy, Marianne.”
