Meds & Counsel without Patience for Patients
Ever heard of Dick’s Last Resort? Never been to the restaurant myself, but I love the concept. It’s like the court jester in medieval times being able to tell the King the harsh truth since everything he said was in—you guessed it—jest. Why has no pharmacy taken up this business practice? If patients expect harsh but fair truth from the pharmacy team, they’ll accept it readily.
Welcome to URxProbablyRxight. The pharmacy of the future where we provide “Meds & Counsel without Patience for Patients.”
These Pills Look Different
[Tech]: “Thanks for calling ‘You Are Probably Right.’ This is Dillon, a technician. What can I do for you?”
[Patient]: “Hey there, Dillon. I got a, umm, question here about my pills. They look different from last time I got ‘em filled.”
[Tech]: “Alright, I’ll look into that for you.”
[Pt]: “I mean, I just want to make sure I got the right thing, ya know?”
[Tech]: “I understand, Mr. Carpenter. So I assume you’re questioning the valacyclovir?”
[Pt]: “Yeah, how’d ya know all that?”
[Tech]: “We got this new-fangled invention called Caller ID, and that’s the last med you got.”
[Pt]: “Okay, yeah. I mean, these aren’t even the same color. The last ones were blue—you know, like a dark blue.”
[Tech]: “And the ones you have now should be white. One side has an I and the other says 87.”
[Pt]: “It’s white, yeah. And let’s see. Looks like L8, and the other side has a 1, I think.”
[Tech]: “Yup, that’s, ahh, that’s it. That’s just a different manufact—”
[Pt]: “Wait wait wait, you said 87—I.”
[Tech]: “Well it’s either a capital I or a 1. And if you go ahead and flip that L8 right side up, you’ll get . . .”
[Pt]: “Okay, yeah, yeah. Yup, I see it now—1 and 87.”
[Tech]: “So like I was saying, this is a just a new manufacturer we’re carrying now, made by Camber Pharmaceuticals. It’s the same thing you got last time, just made by a different company.”
[Pt]: “So it’s the same thing, right?”
[Tech]: “Ahh, yup. Still—still the same thing.”
[Pt]: “This one ain’t gonna murder me, though, is it?”
[Tech]: “Sorry, what’s that?”
[Pt]: “You know, 1-8-7. Dr. Dre. ‘Yeah, and you don’t stop. It’s still 1-8-7 on a mother—’.”
[Tech]: “Wow, yeah, I never really, ahh—I never made that connection. Perhaps not the greatest choice of imprints there, huh?”
[Pt]: “Hey, whatever works, you know. As long as you’re positive I got the right stuff here, right?”
[Tech]: . . .
