Meds & Counsel without Patience for Patients
Ever heard of Dick’s Last Resort? Never been to the restaurant myself, but I love the concept. It’s like the court jester in medieval times being able to tell the King the harsh truth since everything he said was in—you guessed it—jest. Why has no pharmacy taken up this business practice? If patients expect harsh but fair truth from the pharmacy team, they’ll accept it readily.

[Intern]: “Didn’t know if today would be busy or slow.”
[Rph]: “Don’t! Shut your—. Quiet with the S-word, Owen.”
[Intern]: “Sorry, sorry. But I was a little worried when I saw it was just the two of us working the holiday.”
[Rph]: “Well it’s only 6 hours. We’d manage either way.”
[Intern]: “Figured we might have a rush of people deciding Labor Day was the best time to get their flu shots and 3rd COVID doses.”
[Rph]: “Speaking of—did you hear the new name for the Pfizer vaccine?”
[Intern]: “New name?”
[Rph]: “Yeah. Since it’s been fully approved, we’ll soon be administering Comirnaty.”
[Intern]: “Comirnaty?! What the hell kind of name is that?”
[Rph]: “It’s the name you get when you try too hard.”
[Intern]: “They had to know they’d get full approval eventually. You’re telling me they don’t have someone paid 6-figures just to think up names! I mean, they had how long . . . 8 months to come up with something better than that.”
[Rph]: “That’s 2 months per syllable.”
[Intern]: “Exactly.”
[Rph]: “They say Comirnaty is a mash-up of 4 ideas. It’s supposed to sound like community and immunity. Of course it’s got –mirna as a nod to mRNA, and . . . shit, what’s the fourth thing.”
[Intern]: “Umm . . . Co– for COVID?!”
[Rph]: “Oh. Yeah. Duh. What an idiot I am.”
[Intern]: “Second only to whoever came up with Comirnaty.”
[Rph]: “Alright, I deserve that.”
[Intern]: “I don’t know about you, Roger, but I’m gonna keep calling it Pfizer.”
