. . .here are my thoughts.
What new trend would you like to start?
Remember those clocks with the hands that go forever round and round in a circle? Ticking or sweeping away the moments of your life as they endlessly progress. Your phone might even have a feature allowing this throwback to the analog of yesteryear. Or maybe you wear a fancy watch not made by Apple or Garmin—one existing simply to inform you of the time. No buzzing to alert you of an incoming text, or to encourage you to reach your daily step quota. One that impairs your ability to text your wife by speaking into your wrist, secretly imagining yourself in communication with 007, or protecting the POTUS. Digital clocks dominate these days. Yet we still refer to the “Top of the Hour” (e.g., 12:00) or “Bottom of the Hour” (e.g., 12:30) as a carryover to the days of ubiquitous analog clocks. Why do we not have a directional nickname for quarter-hours as well? I’d like to take this opportunity to start the trend of referring to quarter-hours collectively as the “Horizons of the Hour”: the “Eastern Horizon of the Hour” (e.g., 12:15), and “Western Horizon of the Hour” (e.g., 12:45).
