With all the excitement about Santa’s impending visit, Ned can’t be faulted for the misunderstanding. It wasn’t until this very moment that Ned realizes he hasn’t had a single drink all December. With Viv’s mere presence, the thought of a nightcap (following a glass of wine with dinner, a three-martini lunch, a mimosa at 2nd-breakfast, and bloody mary with breakfast) never crossed Ned’s mind. Was Ned’s propensity for alcohol the reason Santa sent Viv this year? Was she Santa’s version of an intervention? Following Viv’s heartfelt toast to both the Heffron’s hospitality and Ned’s friendship, Ned takes a single sip to be courteous. He then pours the rest of his glass down the drain while Viv isn’t looking. There’s so much to be thankful for this Christmas—Viv being tops on that list! Ned makes a silent vow to dedicate the next 11 months to assuring Santa allows Viv to return next December.
