Q&complAints #655 : Poker Movie

What is the best movie featuring poker?

Post your answer in the LEAVE A COMMENT section below. I’m not the boss of you, though. Don’t write anything for all I care! I’d really love to know which poker film you’re all-in for.

. . .here are my thoughts.

What is the best movie featuring poker?

Rounders is the best poker film ever made.  Hands down.  Rumors often arise about a potential sequel to the 1998 classic.  I’m on the fence as to whether I’d ever want that film made.  Ruining the memory of the original is a far more likely outcome than doing it justice with a sequel. The 2024 movie, Dead Money, had ambitions of check-raising the title away from Rounders.  Two glaring errors, though, left Dead Money just that—all-in, drawing dead.  Glancing at a player’s hole cards showed the indices in the top/right corner.  I’m sure some designer decks are oriented this way, but I’ve never seen one, yet alone played a hand of poker with one.  Anyway, the five cards spread across the table were of standard design with indies in top/left and bottom/right corners. I can chalk this up to a filming error, like when everything’s backward in a selfie.  But it still should have been caught during edits.  There’s zero excuse, however, for having a poker pro explain how to compute pot odds … incorrectly! No cash game poker pro would fold a hand with 31% equity, needing only 28.4% to profit.
