. . .here are my thoughts.

What is your favorite uncommon word beginning with “J”?

Janus word: (noun) a word having contradictory meanings

My beloved Everton fired their head coach, Frank Lampard, in January—in soccer parlance, he got the bounce.  Sean Dyche’s debut match as the club’s new manager saw Everton earn their first league win since mid-October.  A massive win against league-leaders, Arsenal!  At the time, Everton were tied for the worst point total in the league.  The win, however, might not have been as unexpected as recent results would indicate.  There’s a phenomenon in soccer known as the new manager bounce.  The team regains confidence as they rally around the managerial change.  Fans cheer louder as they’re filled with newfound hope and excitement.  The opposing team is unable to adequately prepare for unknown tactics of the new coach.  Whatever the reasons may be, the newly appointed manager often comes out victorious in that first match.  The ancient Roman god, Janus, was depicted as having two faces oriented in opposite directions.  Janus would be able to see Lampard sulking away after the bounce from his managerial position, while simultaneously viewing Dyche exalting in his victorious new manager bounce.  Janus giveth, and Janus taketh away.
