What would you not want to carry for a long distance?
Post your answer in the LEAVE A COMMENT section below. I’m not the boss of you, though. Don’t write anything for all I care! After all, this is my 97th Q&complAints post; I’ve been carrying along well without you so far.
. . .here are my thoughts.
What would you not want to carry for a long distance?
The Word of the Day on the Dictionary.com app for July 12, 2021 was velleity. I’ve been studying the WOTD for years and love learning a word like this. Velleity has that perfect combination of characteristics I’m looking for in a new word:
- I’ve never encountered it before.
- It’s useful and descriptive.
- It won’t be difficult to work into normal conversation.
- It sounds just familiar enough that others will think they should know what it means, thus they won’t question my usage of it.
My longtime desire—unaccompanied by any effort to actually obtain it—has been to cycle across the United States. Alternatively, I’d be content with peddling the length of the U.S. Pacific Coast. I haven’t biked for nearly 6 years, so this wish fits snuggly within the definition of velleity. I’d certainly want to do the trip with organized support—a van following the group or meeting us at designated intervals along the route. But most importantly, carrying all our gear. There’s no way I’d want to carry saddle bags full of the supplies needed for a 1,400 to 3,000 mile trek.
