Rx #0000001 : Returned to Stock

Meds & Counsel without Patience for Patients
Ever heard of Dick’s Last Resort? Never been to the restaurant myself, but I love the concept. It’s like the court jester in medieval times being able to tell the King the harsh truth since everything he said was in—you guessed it—jest. Why has no pharmacy taken up this business practice? If patients expect harsh but fair truth from the pharmacy team, they’ll accept it readily.
Welcome to URxProbablyRxight. The pharmacy of the future where we provide “Meds & Counsel without Patience for Patients.”

Returned to Stock

[Rph]: “Sorry, Mr. Jones. I don’t have anything ready for you. What was it you were expecting?”
[Patient]: “Well, I got a text right here. Says prescription number something, something, something, 4453 is ready. See, right here.”
[Rph]: “Okay, yup, I see that message here on the computer as well. Yeah, that text was sent, umm, 15 days ago.”
[Pt]: “Well I just ran out today, so here I am.”
[Rph]: “Yeah, so we can only keep prescriptions ready for 14 days before we put them back, otherwise we get in a lot of trouble with the insurance companies.”
[Pt]: “Well I’m out.”
[Rph]: “I understand, sir. Not a problem. Just give us a bit and we’ll get that ready again for you. Kay, how long’s the wait?”
[Tech]: “Be about 20 minutes, Roger.”
[Rph]: “We’ll have it ready for you in 20 minutes, Mr. Jones.”
[Pt]: “Twenty minutes?! I don’t understand. I got a text—”
[Rph]: “I understand. But as I said, we had to return it to stock—probably just last night—but we’ll have it ready for you very—”
[Pt]: “So you’ll have it done in, what, like 5 minutes?”
[Rph]: . . .

  1. Well, if you had picked it up when or shortly after you received the notice that is was ready this wouldn’t have happened. If we kept every script ready for people that don’t pick them up we would have to have WAREHOUSES to store them. AND, your insurance would gladly sue us for medication fraud for not putting it back. Next time you get a message, pick it up! Then you won’t have to wait for 20 minutes! We TOLD YOU it was ready 14 days ago!

  2. Ok so you had 14 days to come pick this up and now you’re mad you have to wait 20 minutes? You’re right, our time isn’t valuable but yours is. No problem, how about I just bump you up on the list and fill yours now and make the baby who is crying in pain wait for her prescription because YOU GOT a text..

    • It’s the worst when you specifically remember returning it right before close the night before.
